Teeth in a Day

When you lose your teeth, several problems occur. One of the most obvious effects is the deterioration of your smile. With your smile affected, your confidence plummets. Tooth loss makes basic tasks like eating and speaking more challenging. In addition to these effects, tooth loss also leads to bone loss in your jaw, an issue that causes the bone to begin changing shape and throwing off your bite. Dental implants are a very popular treatment for replacing missing teeth. However, the typical procedure uses temporary teeth while you heal, creating your final restorations only after you heal. At Susquehanna Oral and Facial Surgery and Dental Implant Center, we can eliminate the need for temporary teeth with Teeth in a Day.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a treatment designed to treat tooth loss. This treatment is a modern, revolutionary alternative to traditional bridges and dentures. Implants involve a surgical procedure to place small titanium posts into your jawbone. As you heal, your bone fuses to the posts, integrating them into your jaw. Once fully integrated, the posts are then able to provide secure support for your new teeth.

The Typical Implant Procedure

To receive dental implants, you need to undergo a surgical procedure. This procedure is done under a local anesthetic. Sedation can also be provided if you are feeling anxious. Surgery begins with small incisions in your gums, exposing your jawbone. Holes are drilled into the bone, and implant posts are inserted directly inside. Next, your gums are sutured closed.

Typically, once your gums have been sutured, temporary teeth are placed. These teeth stay in place during your recovery, a process that can take several weeks to several months to complete. During this time, several follow up visits are scheduled to ensure that you are healing properly. Once you have fully healed, the process for creating your final restorations begins. This typically takes two additional appointments. During the first appointment, the temporary teeth are removed to take impressions of your mouth. These impressions are sent to our dental lab, where they are used to design and create your final restorations. Once they are complete, a second appointment is scheduled to check the fit of the restoration and secure it into place.

Replacing Your Teeth in One Day

With Teeth in a Day, we can provide you with your final dental restorations immediately following your implant surgery. With this treatment, the need for temporary teeth and additional appointments is eliminated. However, how do you get your final restorations on the same day as your surgery? Rather than impressions being taken after you have healed, your impressions are taken before your surgery takes place. Specialized software is then used to custom design and create your restorations, which will then be waiting for you when you arrive for your implant procedure. Immediately after your gums are sutured closed, your final restorations are secured onto the posts.
